What is Literactivity?

Combining great literature and the exciting interactive nature of computers, Literactivity creates a new innovative art form called a Literactivity. Essentially, we construct a supplemental virtual reality for our books that augments a reader’s understanding through activities, games, and role playing. Literactivity does not replace traditional literature; it offers an opportunity for reluctant readers to better understand works of literature and sophisticated readers to gain a deeper understanding of characters, themes, and symbols in our novels.

“So many schools are introducing the iPad in classrooms, yet, little content exists for these devices,” says Amy Heber, president of Literactivity. “We at Literactivity are raising the bar on ebooks, by providing  a virtual reality with rich, educational content that enhances the nature of reading.”

Where will Literactivity be available?

First published as both an iPad app and an HTML5 browser app, Literactivity’s first application will be available for sale through iTunes and Amazon. Our first venture, Is it Night or Day? by Fern Schumer Chapman, will be available in a matter of days.

Why did you pick Is it Night or Day? as your first selection?

Chicago Public Library selected Is It Night or Day? by author Fern Schumer Chapman as one of the 2010 “Best of the Best” titles, and Literactivity has selected this book as its first release for its broad appeal and serious subject matter. This critically acclaimed historical novel tells the story of a 12-year-old girl (the author’s mother) who escapes certain death at the hands of the Nazis by traveling alone to a new life in the United States. Young Edith’s bewildered efforts to assimilate in America are as poignant as her struggle against constant feelings of abandonment and isolation.

Our multimedia book offers 10 to 15 hours of content and can be enjoyed at home or in the classroom. Schools can choose the most cost-effective distribution option for their students.
